Just what I wanted for a new iPhone. A special “Thank You” to artist ‘Serge Averbukh’ for the addition, at my request, to the design of my Navy rating, the lightening bolts (sparks as they are/were called) in the middle of the CPO insignia. I asked; he came through….When I use my phone, it brings back fond memories of my 20-year Navy career…. Thanks Serge….

Potassium reacting with water in a water bath. Potassium (K) is an alkali metal and a highly reactive element. It reacts with water (H2O) to produce potassium hydroxide (KOH) and hydrogen gas (H2). The reaction produces enough heat to ignite the hydrogen, which burns with a pink flame due to the presence of the potassium. The heat of the reaction also melts the potassium metal, which forms a molten ball that floats on the water. For this reaction in the presence of phenolphthalein indicator (which detects the presence of alkalis such as potassium hydroxide), see image C040/2679.
